These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Portano application and related services. By creating an account or using Portano, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

Portano is a call and message screening service. It provides you with a dedicated phone number that screens incoming calls and messages, allowing you to approve or deny callers before they can reach your personal phone number.

2. Account Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to use Portano. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating your account.

3. Subscription and Payment

Portano requires an active subscription to function. Subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store. By subscribing, you agree to the payment terms presented at the time of purchase. You can cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings. Upon cancellation, your Portano phone number will be released and incoming calls will no longer be screened.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Portano to:

• Engage in any illegal activity, including harassment or fraud
• Send unsolicited messages (spam) through the service
• Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the service
• Impersonate another person or entity
• Use the service for automated calling or bulk messaging

5. Phone Number

Portano provides you with a phone number for the duration of your active subscription. This number is leased, not owned. We reserve the right to change or reassign numbers if necessary for operational reasons, with reasonable notice.

6. Voicemail and Recording

Portano may record voicemail messages left by callers who are pending your approval. By using the service, you acknowledge that these recordings are made and stored on your behalf. You are responsible for complying with any applicable recording consent laws in your jurisdiction.

7. Service Availability

We strive to keep Portano available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. The service depends on third-party providers (Twilio, cloud hosting) and may experience occasional downtime. We are not liable for missed calls or messages due to service interruptions.

8. Limitation of Liability

Portano is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including missed calls, lost messages, or service interruptions. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the preceding 12 months.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or use the service in a way that harms other users or the service itself. You may terminate your account at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting your account through the app.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.
